Off on one of my tangents.......

I have been trying to find medal recommendations for 1/8 Lancashire Fusiliers for their part in the Kohima fighting in 1944. They are normally in WO373. But I can only find one!! ( a MM to Waldron, Patrick Michael Anthony for Viswema in June 1944 that was not gazetted until March 1945). There are half a dozen for the fighting in 1945 and some for 1st Battalion (with the second Chindit expedition) largely for Mogaung.

I've tried various searches as sometimes the unit is abbreviated etc but not having any luck. I suppose it could be that the unit commander did not believe in Gallantry medals. Has anyone come across this before?

    Hi

Researching my Uncle Richard Gordon McMillan 3448990 of 1/8 Lancs Fusiliers. I have his service record but it lacks any detail of places battalion were stationed or fought while in India - visit to Kew is on the cards for battalion war diaries.

My uncle was wounded on 11 May as they fought their way up to Kohima, also mentioned in dispatches but not gazetted until May 1946.

If there is anything you would be willing to share relating to 1/8 LF and their time in India I would be really grateful

    cheers
    Andy

There is a seller on ebay who has ripped apart a 1/8th Lancashire Fusiliers photograph album which covers their time India up until 1946. A great shame and in my opinion an act of vandalism. I will not post a link but it is easy to find if you search for the individual photographs that he has listed.
