He first gets a mention in Ponsonby's in Vol II when he joins the 1st Bn in Sept 1917 as a Second Lieutenant. He is listed in October as being in The King's Company. March 1918 he is breifly OC of King's Company but only a Lieutenant. August 1918 he is Acting Adjutant of the 1st Bn. Still a Lieutenant. January 1919 he is picked to go to London to bring the First Battalion Colours out to Cologne with 2nd Lt MG Farquharson MC. He is in the list of officers awarded a MiD but no date.
