Hi! I’m new here, but I’m wondering if anyone could help.
My great uncle; Douglas Percy Golding (age 19) is buried in Wilsele. He was part of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. He died along with 30 others from his Battalion on 22 May 1940 according to his grave stone.
We’re unable to find any information of anything happening on that day.
Am I right in thinking that the battalion fought in Leuven/DYLE about a week before the graves say they died. Could it be the dates are wrong?
I’d appreciate any information at all you could offer.
    thank you so much.

    Hi,

There is no evidence that he was initially buried elsewhere “on the battlefield” and then removed to Wilsele. While the majority of CG buried there died 22nd May 1940 there are others who died in the preceding days. It may be that there was some sort of medical facility at Wilsele at that time and the men died of wounds there.

Hopefully a helpful member may post a copy of his entry or entries the official casualty list from FMP site (recently also made available on Ancestry) that may throw some light on the circumstances of his death.

    Good Luck

    Steve
