Hi Currently looking for information on a Walter Ellis Rains 2664363 of the Coldstream Guards who was killed in Italy September 1943 if anyone can help pls
When researching casualties it often helps other members if you include a link to his CWGC entry. He was likely 3rd CG. I’ll let you attach the CWGC link. The regimental history is available online via hathitrust. There will be some information on findmypast - official casualty record entry and entries from CG records - enlistment register etc. Access will likely be free at your local library. Steve
Do the basics! There are other threads here with the Service No. and easy to find using the forum's search option. It helps to show, even as a new member, what you have done and so prevent duplication.

3 COLDM GDS were in Salerno town on 21 Sep 44 preparing to advance north up the San Severino Pass towards Avellino. 201 Guard Brigade, of who 3 COLDM GDS were part, were to take the lead up the Pass and then swing left towards Naples. On 25 Sep 44, WO2 (CSM) Peter Wright was awarded the Victoria Cross in that advance north. Regards Frank
