Interesting. That's very early in the war. Also intrigued with what a Private in the A&SH was doing attached to the DLI. Got any more info CL1?

13 DLI weren't in France looking at my BEF orbat. I wonder if he was in a AMPC unit. Anyone asked Jim or Kyle-They are the DLI experts.

    From a family tree:

30 Sep 1939 • WW II, France (killed by shunting train)

Nothing more on the reason why he was supposedly attached to DLI

Some info states killed at Dunkirk, yet he is buried at Pornic, which is near Nantes on the west coast of France i.e the opposite side of France geographically speaking

    This is very strange...

The 13th Bn Durham Light Infantry was a 'Home Defence' battalion and so, was not posted overseas. At this time, it was mainly made up of WWI veterans of low medical categorisation. Pte Dillion could possibly have been attached to the 13th Bn Durham Light Infantry and then attached again to other duties.

Edit: Pte Dillon is not included in the RoH on Jim's website: http://durhamlightinfantry.webs.com/theirgunsnowsilent.htm Not surprising, as he was not a Durham and only 'attached'.

I have a book on shunting trains with the BEF in France - I'll have a look if I remember and see if he gets a mention.
