Owen If you are still in contact I would appreciate it if you could pass my sincere condolences to his family. RIP Maurice Ron
Paul, On 24 June 1944 2 Somersets were on the western end of the Trasimene Line. 4th Division had just taken over from 36 Brigade 78 Division and were pushing along the ridge that links Villastrada, Vaiano and Gioiella. I know Poggio del Papa very well - you can read about the battle for Vaiano and La Villa in 'the Liberation of Vaiano and La Villa by Janet Kinirade Dethick available as download from Lulu.com Regards from Umbria
Paul. Thanks for the information on 2 SLI WDs. They are just the ticket for a battlefield study that I am running in Feb 12 following 1/6 Surreys from Rome to Rimini Jun-Sep 44. Whilst 2 SLI were in 28 Inf Bde and 1/6 Surreys were in 10 Inf Bde, they often conducted passage of line through each also so the WDs are a fabulous resource. Much appreciated. Regards FdeP
Paul, thank you very much for the documents. I have read only now this thread and the war diary and the map will be very useful to my search
