I'm trying to work out my grandads movements in ww2. I found a scrap of paper in his service book where he wrote some useful information including dates. Except he said when in France he went from the 49th RTR to 13/18 Hussars but this had no date. I'm trying to work out when this was, because my dad remembers him mentioning D-Day so I'm inclined to think he was involved but I'd like to know for sure. Does anyone know where I can look to find this out? Sorry if this is obvious but I'm all new to it. Thanks for any help!
It might help if you included your grandfather's name, rank and service number or as much as this as you know.
Sorry, I don't know why it didn't occur to me to include that. His name was James Edward Percy. I believe he was a private throughout the war, possibly made a lance corporal in 1945. His army number was 7923408
Best bet would be his service records: Get a copy of military records of service: Overview - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Thank you, this was suggested by someone else as well, so I will definitely be doing this! Thanks for taking the time to reply
