Award Military Cross 1st Lt. Claire J. Boyle, battery "A", 383rd Field Artillery Bn, 103rd Infnatry Division (0-534069)

For gallantry in action. During the period 29th-30th November 1944, in the vicinity of Itterswiller, France, Lieutenant Boyle, forward observer, advanced with an attacking infantry company. Enemy fire was so severe one of the company officers was killed, and three wounded. Rising to the emergency, Lieutenant Boyle immediately assumed command, reorganised the company dispatched reconnaissance and combat patrols, simultaneously communicating effective fire directions to the artillery. The following morning, Lieutenant Boyle, ordered to attack the town, assembled, his remaining sixty remaining men and successfully accomplished his mission in the wake of a rolling barrage. His exemplary fortitude and superb leadership were in accordance with the highest traditions of the military service. Entered military service from Ogden, Utah.
