FOR HIGHLY DISTINGUISHED SERVIDES AND GALLANTRY IN ACTION.

During the UKHRUL Road Operations June-July 1944 Major W.B. SHEARER has been an inspiration to the men of his Company. The very successful defence of his company position when attacked on 10th-11th June 1944 when he suffered only three casualties and counted 38 dead Japanese outside his wire, was largely due to the excellent siting of his positions and coolness he displayed during the attack. later on in the operations, during the pursuit up the left bank of the THOUBAL river, due to the vigorous patrolling of Major Shearer's company contact was maintained with the enemy in very dense and difficult jungle. He again inflicted heavy casualties om a Japanese force which tried to break out towards SHANGSHAK and captured much valuable equipment. In the subsequent mopping up operations it was largely due to the untiring efforts of Major Shearer and his company that the majority of the Japanese force was hunted down and destroyed.

Major W.B. SHEARER, during these operations has shown courage and leadership of very high order.
