Good evening to you all, As part of my research on the Battle of the Scheldt, I am looking for information about the Cheshire Regiment 2nd Bn. Do you have any information about this battalion on May 21, 22 and 23, 1940? The tomb of a soldier ( GORDON FREDERICK EUSTACE HEWETT Service Number: 4123238 ) of this battalion has attracted my curiosity because it is in the village where I am researching the Second World War. https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2254616/gordon-frederick-eustace-hewett/ PRIVATE GORDON FREDERICK EUSTACE HEWETT Service Number: 4123238 Regiment & Unit: 2nd Bn. We had a thread about a 2nd Cheshires casualty a couple of years ago. As mentioned there, they were a Machine Gun Battalion. Looking for history on the 2nd Battalion the Cheshire regiment. 1939/40. BEF Once again, in your churchyard, there seems to be a link with 1st Battalion, Duke of Wellington's Regiment, whom they were probably supporting...their war diaries, or those of 3rd Infantry Brigade may help.
