    Hi,
I've got a newspaper clipping from Halifax Evening Courier (Oct. 20, 1947) that refers to a group of German POWs from Cliffe Hill Camp, Lightcliffe, that includes a mention of my grandfather who preached at the Hipperholme Methodist Church on Oct. 19, 1947.

I have searched the English Heritage POW camp list many times but cannot find that such a camp existed. I know that my grandfather also stayed at the Butcher Hill Camp in Leeds. I have documentation supporting that camp having existed. I just wonder if anyone knows of the Cliffe Hill camp or did the newspaper get it mixed up with the Butcher Hill group as they are about 1/2 hour drive from each other?

    Thanks,

It is a tad difficult to find this camp, however if you search online with: overdale camp, skipton, yorkshire look for a document on a link from www.ww2pow.uk . This downloads a x15 pgs. report by Roger Thomas, an English Heritage historian, who compiled long ago a list of the camps and the Cliffe Hill Camp appears in a table.

Using the simple site's search facility just with cliffe two threads appear - amidst forty others. One is a single post: Huddersfield POW Camp. and 1947 Camp List - more general listing.
