Can some kind soul please help with details of the claims made by the Luftwaffe and casualties admitted by the RAF for 7th December 1942? I am particularly interested in a Mustang Mk I that went missing that day but for which no record seems to exist of what happened to it. Many thanks David
All I find (in a highly inadequate source I must admit though) on the German side is a note that 3 enemy fighters were shot down... Do you have any further details about that Mustang? It may not be of help in this case, but here's a very great site on planes crashed/landed in Switzerland 1939-1945 which you might wanna check out... It lets you search for dates, types of planes, regions etc and gives various details about the crashsites.
More details on that Mustang: On 7 Dec 1942 John Denning was flying the Allison Mustang Mark I AG594 from RAF 26 Squadron on his very first operational flight out of RAF Gatwick. The operational record book entry simply reads “P/O J.A. DENNING missing from Air operations over Enemy Territory”. However the book “Mustang: The Operational Record” by Robert Jackson records him as “F.T.R. [failed to return] from armed recce Fecamp”.
Not a lot of help but....Air Britain Serials has the following entry. Mustang I AG594 63-26 Squadron. Missing near Fecamp 7-12-42. Peter.
