I am trying to locate an incident on the Libyan coast in 1941 when a Rifleman rescued one of two officers (thought to be Royal Artillery) who got into difficulties while swimming. The other officer was drowned. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. James.

details of that gunner is a bit odd inasmuch as this date is close to the end of the Gazala Gallop when 8th Army was in full retreat to El Alamein after losing Tobruk in June and not much time for swimming ?
    Cheers
