The two bombs used at the Bikini tests after the war were in the Pacific before Aug. 6th.

The NSA bomb docs includes a discussion wherein it was noted that we would be ready to produce six atomic bombs a month by Oct. 1945. Things were going to get very bad for Japan.

The Emperor was a figurehead. The constitution had be modified c. 1937 to require that members of the Army and Navy had to be in the cabinet. If one of them resigned the cabinet stopped until a new military man was appointed, by the military.

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki did not happen in isolation. A whole series of events over many years led up to the decision to use nuclear weapons but, for some reason we choose not to commemorate, remember or even talk about those events. Maybe by ignoring them we can focus our attention on the 'evil' perpertrated on the innocent Japanese by the western colonial powers. We can wear sackcloth and cover ourselves in ashes and pretend that there is no such thing as evil, just bad deeds done by misunderstood people with bad thoughts in their heads, who were led astray by self serving politicians. With our new found sense of moral equivalence we can clearly see that anything that the Japanese may have done should be wiped off the slate because we dropped not one but two atomic bombs on them. In the same light we must forgive the Germans for the Holocaust because we bombed Dresden. Now you are begining to understand the new rules. If we don't talk about it, it didn't happen and there is no such thing as evil.

Sod that, evil is evil and, like a wild fire if we don't put it out it will spread until it has consumed everything decent and wholesome. Remember that throughout history good men have had to do bad things in order to stop bad men doing worse things. The price of our freedom has been costly and paid in blood and treasure. Let us not throw it way now because we want to fool ourselves into thinking that evil doesn't exist, that everyone can be our friend and that every thing is equal.

With that in mind, I respectfully surgest that we start remembering some of the events that led up to the use of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, such as this one.

Covering only the U.S. Army, the Army Service Forces (ASF) planning document of 15 January 1945, "Redeployment of the United States Army after the Defeat of Germany," expected that an average of 43,000 replacements for "dead and evacuated wounded"[a] would be needed each month between June 1945 and December 1946 to carry out the final phase of the war against Japan.[90] Projected losses in these categories, excluding those of the Navy and Marine Corps, totaled approximately 723,000 through the end of 1946 and 863,000 through the first part of 1947.[91]
