That must be a law change I've missed then: I'm sure I've seen nightwatchmen come in to face only a couple of balls ...

it's always been there. With any fall of wicket the over proceeding a break in play a new batsmen will come in after the break. The only change is if 9th wicket went down before tea. The fielding captain could claim an extra 30 minutes

Although I thought the Aussies would lose I am saddened to see no comment on the third test.

ENGLAND HUMBLED BY PACE IN THE THIRD TEST.

100,000 EXPECTED FOR THE TRADITIONAL BOXING DAY TEST.

    Geoff,

You are so right, we are pathetic.:)
Enjoyed a little bit of proper dominance over you Aussie's for the first time since 1987 and it all went to our heads.

I think the turning point of the third test was Johnson's little chat to Strauss when they walked off on day 1! It inspired Johnson to his wonderful bowling performance.

However, I do believe England are made of sterner stuff these days, so I expect a real battle over the remaining games. It will come down to whether England can manage the new found aggression from the Australian bowlers?

    Steve.

The MCG wicket will not mirror the WACA one that is for sure.

100,000 expected fans will sure be something to remember one way or the other.

    Cheers

Well, it's been pretty memorable up to lunch!:D Four wickets, two dropped catches and nearly a run out. Punter and Mr Cricket back in the hutch for not a lot and only one or two wickets before England get to bowl at the tail. I reckon we could be batting by tea or shortly after.

During the MCG lunch I'm watching the NZ-Pak T20. Southee is having a dream day - five wickets in 8 balls including a hat trick!

Better hope the tail doesn't wag.

Humid, overcast, slight rain - s**t!

98 all out. Every one of 'em caught behind square and all but Punter playing bad shots (and that's being charitable!)

And now Australia bowling on a pitch that has flattened out with 5 seam bowlers (if you include Watson) and a part time spinner who has never bowled a single ball in test cricket. I can only imagine what the Australian commentators are making of that selection.

My grandfather's cousin was the Aussie player Alan Kippax - they had some family reunions when the Aussies toured UK in the 1920 -30s I believe.

I've read in quite a few accounts that he was an elegant and stylish batsman with an unhurried style.
