You’ve quoted Tom Canning in your post but Tom passed away a few years ago now.

You may need to send a PM to the member who posted the photo you ware interested in to request a copy.

Apologies. I meant this photo. My sausage fingers and mobile phones don't go well together.

Also, the photo appears to have been taken around the same time as the two photos of 1IG I've posted earlier in this thread. Do we know where they may have been taken? I'm presuming Barletta, as this photo is dated 1944, and it appears my Grandad has one ribbon on his tunic, which from dates im presuming is African Star, and also the VC guy is stated as such.

    Cheers.

What is your link to Gdsm Dowling?

He was killed during the 24 Guards Brigade operation to secure a Line of Departure for 3 Infantry Brigade’s attack on Campoleone.

1 IG suffered horribly and lost three of their four Rifle Companies. It was a grim few days.

Get me through my website www.cassinobattlefields.co.uk and I will send you the story of that attack in detail with the maps so you can pinpoint it yourself on the ground.

Vallelata Ridge is still there as is the railway bridge.

    Regards
