I am hoping to discover what I can about Gnr. J. Woods T/65104, RASC. He was attached to the Royal Artillery and was posted in 1940 as part of the 201st British Military Mission To Petawawa, Ontario, Canada. This is all I know about him. Is there a way I can find out his full name and military history? Many thanks, Andy Maule
Andy Other forum members might be able to assist further with date of birth. If you want to find out more about him and other military persons you need the service records. Once you have his date of birth you can apply for his death cert. death cert link here https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ You then need to follow instructions in this linkRequest records of deceased service personnel
Andy, I know nothing about such Army missions to Canada, so had to learn. Thankfully your Post 132 on: 76th HAA Regt RA, (236, 237, and 349 Batteries) explains enough. There are a number of threads on Petawawa here; as it appears to be the home of the Royal Canadian Artillery's main base. It might be worth a direct message to them for help. I assume somewhere in the TNA there is a diary for the mission, which might have a list of the personnel - though I fear only officers will be listed. Using https://www.corpsofmilitarypolice.org/tools/armynumber?query=65104 the site rejected using T/ and stated he was Royal Army Service Corps (Block 1). He does not appear on the CWGC database. I am stumped on what to do next. Good luck.
Patron Many thanks for the message, and the confirmation of his RASC number. I have a list of the men on the mission and most I can find on the Royal Artillery Attestation Records site (Royal Artillery Attestations 1883-1942 | findmypast.co.uk). However, there does not seem to be a similar place for RASC records that I can find. Best wishes Andy
With RASC numbers the T prefix means Transport as opposed for example to the S prefix for the RASC's supply arm. His number was issued from their sequence 1 - 294000 which started use in 1920 (100694 was issued Oct 1939). No hits in the WW2 casualty lists on ancestry for 65104, which also has RA Tracer cards. RASC archives including enlistment books are included in the Royal Logistics Corps Archives, but I note that the enlistment books that have been digitised there only go to service number 51000. There is a charge for both research enquiries and using the digital archive. Welcome to the RLC Digital Archive - RLC Digital Archive Petawawa Garrison has it's own museum. Thank you Travers, these are great clues to hopefully move forward in my research. Very best wishes, Andy
