Looking for info on my great grandfather: Henry Salicon

Discussion in 'Canadian' started by Theron Aubichon, Nov 30, 2023.

  1. Hello, I'd like to know if anyone can help me find some more information on my grandfather. His name was Henry Salicon, and was apart of the Regina Rifles Regiment in WW2. That's basically all I know, other than the fact he was wounded twice while in Europe, and discharged in August of 1945.

Theron, we do have an “expert” on the Regina Rifles on this website, I’m sure when he comes along (in fact I’ll send him a PM telling him your looking for info)……he should be able to help

EDIT: I’ve sent him a PM with a link to this post, he should be able to give you a lot of help

    Cheers

You wouldn’t have his Service Number would you, that would tell us “which” unit he originally joined??

  7. I don't.. But my grandmother has his medals and I believe his discharge papers. I'll have to ask her if she does and report back

The records and info on my site are almost entirely related to 1st Battalion RRR, the unit that landed on D-Day. The Reginas also had 2nd and 3rd Bns that served in Canada only, and a 4th Bn that was formed overseas after VE Day and served on occupation duties into 1946. In similar cases, 4th Bn often ends up being the answer, men who served elsewhere ended up with them before returning home. I don't have a nominal roll for 4th Bn, but do have the records to create one and a quick search of the first few months of their existence don't show him.

On a hunch, checked a nominal roll for the South Saskatchewan Regiment and found
L84706 Pte Salecon H. who was wounded 3 times in Aug, Sept and Oct 44.

A further dig around that site might reveal more.

To get the complete story, you need to obtain his personnel file from the Archives in Ottawa
