Good morning, I am part of the Lympne airfield history society and I was privileged to be able to visit a forward observation post in Lympne castle. On the wall in the post is a plaque which says No.3 F.O.P Lympne M.V. Can anyone out there tell us what M.V signifies please?
Welcome aboard. There are many threads here for Lympne and on a quick scan this may help: Intended FJ role in Sealion... as there is a pointer to local expertise Could the FOP be related to the use of the airfield in WW1? It was part of the School of Aerial Gunnery.
I understand that the FOP was built in WW2 to track doodlebugs as, at the time Lympne was in the middle of the corridor Germany used to target London. Thank you for your reply.
Hi, yes it could, it could be Maidstone Vector and we did think of that but we don't know for sure but thanks for your help.
