In a few days I am off to Bali to spend three or four months with my daughter Alison, grand-children and two great grand-children who I have not seen as yet.

The purpose of this posting is let you know, while there, I will be cruising the Badoeng Strait, between Bali and the islands of Lembongan, Tjeningen and Nusa Besar, following the movements of the Dutch, American and Japanese warships - at least best we can from the map of the sea battle. The purpose of the Japanese attack was to capture the airfield at Denpasar (now Bali's international airport) from which they could then mount attacks on Dutch positions in Java.

    Cheers, Gerry

The Anambas islands were probably the first to be invaded by the Japanese and used as a forward naval base.

I don't know if you have seen the attached. It is a google earth photo with known wrecks inlaid. The other is just a normal map of the similar area.
