    Hello again folks,

    I'm back with another request of anyone knowledgeable enough to decipher this army record because I'm really struggling with some of it.

    A brief run-through of what I have already figured out;
    It starts with his enlistment on 4/Jan/45 and his transfer to the Manchester Machine Gun Training Centre.
    9/Jun/45 sees him permanently attached to the 5th battalion of the Cheshire regiment.
    He was later posted to the 54(th?) RHU of the BOAR for a few days before being posted to General Headquarters of the 2nd Echelon, located in Bad Oeynhausen.

    That is his service record in a nutshell, but there are finer details of his army record that I still don't understand that I'm hoping someone can help me with :)

    First is the 5th handwritten line, the one ending "with effect from 4 July 45". The first part of that line is indecipherable to me.

    Next is the next few lines, they all start Struck On Strength Draft and then end either RPNQL, RPRLA or RVAGK. I can't find any reference to those codes or the record entry that they are a part of. I realise that only the last code is probably worth anything, and they're likely just some sort of transport order, but if it can provide me any more information then it would be good to know what they mean :)

    The last part I haven't had any luck researching is the line below the stamp, that reads "Reclassified 2 Stars, with effect from" What does this mean? And is it related to the medical examination that follows?

    If anyone can clarify any of these main points for me, that would be great :) Also, if anyone can provide any information on the Cheshire Regiments 5th battalion, especially during the 8 month period he served with them from June of 1945, then that would be appreciated. I know he was in the TA, and WWI information on the 5th battalion shows it was a TA battalion back then, but I can't find much information on them during WWII.

    It's alot to ask, but if anyone can provide any information, then I would be very grateful.

    Both the Manchesters and Cheshires were machine gun units and so interchange was not a big deal - theRVAGK stuff is merely a code for embarkation and had to show on all documents and kit 0therwise you didn't go anywhere .,,the indeciferable line looks like he was tested as CLASS 1 in whatever - the two stars is not known to me - should be Struck OFF Strength or Taken ON Strength- RHU = reinforcement holding unit
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

    Does anyone know what the abbreviation RVAGK stands for?

    as I pointed out earlier - RVAGK - is merely a code number for embarkation purposes - that's all .
    Cheers
