I'm puzzled by this curious little booklet that I found amongst my dad's wartime stuff.

Judging by the date stamps, it looks like it was officially issued to dad (or maybe someone he knew) on 1st Feb 1946. Another faint stamp says "Venezia Giulia Police Force" with a zone & section stated which I can't quite decipher.

This probably indicates that dad was still in northern Italy during the spring of 1946, as I know he was transfered to the 700th BTY RA Aux Police C.M.F. during 1945 after the war was over, and received police training.

Some of the content seems a bit subversive/anti-establishment, as is 'Comrades for the Other Side'. So I wonder if anyone has any more information about this booklet (e.g. who was it produced by? Was it an official handout, or maybe it had been confiscated by the police?)

It is a German propaganda pamphlet produced in January 1945 by the SS-Standarte Kurt Eggers Division, specifically the Südstern section - Southern Star.

One of the officers of this unit was Henri Nannen, who later made his fortune in publishing after founding the famous Stern magazine.

Absolutely Brilliant! Many thanks for that Lee.

I wonder if dad just "borrowed it" from the police evidence cupboard!

There is something hand-written in Italian on the title page which I need to get translated.

Ask vitellino to have a look. She's fluent in Italian.

Steve, possibly it was found during a police search or patrol after the war or handed in to the police by an Italian.

Interesting, what regiment was he with, & did he do a 'policing' stint?
