    Hi everyone

Does anyone happen to know the units the following RASC casualties belonged to at the time of their deaths?

    Michael Stewart COOPER Corporal 10538038

    Edward Charles JOHNSON Private 4914838

    Donald Sergeant BOOTH 7634778

    GEOFFREY EDWIN STERRY Serjeant 7611235

    JAMES WILLIAM CROWE Private 2989061

    THOMAS McGREEVY Private 3717408

Have searched FMP, Ancestry, CWGC and RLC Archive with no luck.

    Thanks as ever

Gus, Ive undertaken similar research and unless the name is in CWGC then it is a real challenge to discover their units. That said, I have stumbled across a few names on my lists, usually by reading unit war diaries. I then make a point of forwarding the relative page from the WD, as evidence, to CWGC who usually, but not always, update their database. I will check back through my WD for Ord in Greece in slower time but I note most were almost around VE Day so probably not the result of en action, more likely illness or accident. Does FMP show them in the daily lists of casualties as they might not give a unit but usually state 'died of accident' or similar.
The Ord in Greece at that time was mainly large Ordnance Depots, 140 BOD and 583 Ord Depot I think and similarly numbered Ammo Depots.

    Hi JB

Thanks for looking. Cas Lists just list them as "RAOC".

These all the Ordnance Units which were in Greece at the time from the. So we do have a few matches,

8 Ordnance Beach Detachment (later merged into 3 Corps Tps Ord)
    33 Mobile Bath Unit
583 Advanced Ordnance Depot (later merged into 3 Corps Tps Ord)
    50 Kinema Section
50 Kinema Section - Det (Salonika)
23 Armoured Brigade Ord Fld Pk
4 Indian Infantry Division Ordnance Field Park
    4 Div Ordnance Field Park
3rd Greek Mountain Brigade Ordnance Field Park
140 Ordnance Depot RASC (also known as 8 OBD)

Most found in OOB part of War Diary - 3 Corps G Branch - Dec 44 (WO 170-251) and Op Manna Op Order No 1.

These are not 'battle' casualties and so are not vital for my research.

Still would be nice to know a little more about them.

Hi Gus, yes I get it, even though its not part of my research, I always make a note of deaths in case it helps others in their research after all, knowledge not shared is lost. Nothing noted re deaths in WD for 140 or 583 for 1945.
I have a larger list of Ord units in Greece in Jan 45 if you want it.
