Hi all. Can anybody recommend any good books on SOE please? Mainly interested in the ETO. Is the Ray Mears book on Telemark any good? I've read Flames in the field on Women who were with F-Section and it was excellent. Plus any other info you feel would be useful. Thanks.
Gage, MRD Foote was the official historian for SOE, and wrote several books on the subject. If you go the Hyperwar site and look in the Official British Histories section, you'll find his original one from about 1966. You should find more at UKBookworld.com old, rare and out-of-print book database
The Heroes of Telemark film glossed over the endurance part of the operation. Thankfully Ray Mears has drawn attention to if nothing else the feat of endurance.
Thanks everyone. Read about Nancy Wake, indeed inspiring. MRD Foote stuff is hard to get hold off but do keep looking. I'm going to check out Ray Mears book as sounds very good.

I may have a copy of MRD Footes books in one of my many boxes for disposal/sale. Regards Andy Can you let me know, Andy, if you find any. Thanks.
I have just had a quick look throught the dozen or so boxes of boos for dispoal that I only have MI9 Escape and Evasion by MRD Foot and JM Langley. I am going to be sorting them all out today and tomorrow so may find the SOE one! Regards Andy
SOE: The Scientific Secrets by Fredric Boyce and Douglas Everett: & Secret Agent's Handbook: The WWII Spy Manual of Devices, Disguises, Gadgets and Concealed Weapons by Mark Seaman: Are both excellent, the first a study of the advanced technology used, following the careers and innovations of particular artisans within SOE, the latter a facsimile of the catalogue of devices available to agents. Some of which are quite mad. Cheers, Adam.
Hi Look for "Nancy Wake - SOE's greatest heroine" by Russell Braddon. Amazing story. Cheers Andy Certainly a fiery character.
