Some 2 Wilts graves in Italy.

    I thought I'd post a few graves of casualties from 2nd Bn Wiltshire Regiment in case any relatives were looking for them.
    These first few are in Cassino War Cemetery.

    From the Battalion History & War Diary from Thw Wardrobe.
    31/10/1943
    Vinchiatura , Italy.
    13 IB moved forward by MT am to area S.POLO .
    At first light 2 INNISKS moved fwd to achieve their objectives set out in Information Paragraph of Operation Order No. 1.
    2 WILTS approached Pt 784 by march route across country and at 1400 leading companies crossed start line in the green valley by S.MASSIMO.
    By 1515 hrs Bn objective Pt 762 (map ref 3222 ISERNIA 1/50000) was clear of GERMANS and D A and B Coys were in position from right to left facing NORTH to CANTALUPO with Bn HQ and C coy in res on the SOUTH slope.
    Opposition by 9 PGR of 26 PZ DIV was slight being estimated at 1 Pl in strength.
    By 1600 hrs heavy shellfire came down along ridge from enemy 15 cn SP guns and at last light about 1730 hrs two enemy fighting patrols broke into our position , taking fiv [sic] Ps/W
    Shellinf ceased by 1800 hrs.
    Bn casulaties were Three killed , 7 wounded and 5 prisoners.
    Against this two Germans were found dead next morning in front of A and B Coy positions and four prisoners including the Officer Commanding No 9 SP gun coy were taken .
    The Bn spent a cold and wet night on point 762 without greatcoats or blankets.

    Bn spent a night undisturbed by the enemy and at first light about 0530 hrs wireless contact was regained with D A & B Coys.
    C Coy sent patrols to CANTALUPO Cross Rds map ref 3225 which is reported clear by 0800 hrs .
    D Coy moved down to CANTALUPO , where one man was killed by German shellfire.
    At 1145 B coy sptd by arty moved without meeting opposition on to MONTAGNOLA feature in 3023.
    About middat communication was regianed with HQ 13 I/B with the arrival of LT.

    PM Bn less B coy who remained in area MONTAGNOLA , moved to CANTALUPO.

    A Coy at 328235
    QM brought up ration mules.

    Alfred james Buckey , 5574513 , Son of Charles and Harriet Amelia Buckey.
    Killed the day Sgt Rogers won his VC. 03/06/1944
    He's buried at Beach Head Cemetery, Anzio.
