Looking on the web I found this: 30/11/1939: the Soviet Union attacks Finland 21/2/1940: the Soviet Union bombs Sweden Not knowing my history I am confused as to why The Soviet Union are attacking these two countries. Can someone enlighten me please? Thanks
Do a search on here for Finland or Sweden as we've discussed it before. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/history/4669-bombing-stockholm.html?highlight=finland Also here's link to the Winter War between Finland and SU http://www.winterwar.com/ and here,http://www.kaiku.com/winterwar.html
From that what i know the Russians want strategy points around Leningrad.Russia was ready to give to Finland big territory in exchange for those strategy points around Leningrad but Finland refuse and the war strated Stalin told to the russian comanders that Soviet Union is ready to send anythink just to win the battle.
Russia suffered greatly because of their underestimation of how Finland would defend itself when attacked. Bad mistake. They eventually achieved their objective but at a terrible cost. And their performance was so dismal it gave Hitler the heart to plan his invasion but fortunately for Russia, and ultimately the rest of Europe, they re-learned how to fight during the course of Barbarossa.
The Winter War ended in March 1940 though before the signing of a truce the Finns were considering whether to accept Allied help which could only have come through Sweden. Consequently, the bombing was a warning not to get involved. The Finns themselves decided that Allied offers of help were just that, offers with nothing concrete and sued for peace.
Well it is nice to know that people haven´t forgotten Finlands part in World War 2. It also seems that you people know many things about us, even though Finland is a small country. This truly warms my heart.
