I suppose that most of us do the same thing at some time but I have been trying to tidy my cupboards. I have given up on the attic. I don't remember putting things up there but it is always full of junk. Anyway I have not progressed very far because most of the cupboards are still full of Trux Models which I am not inclined to get rid of but seldom see the light of day. Long forgotten projects and variants are discovered, dusted and put back.

I suddenly realised that it is now 25 years since Trux Models was conceived and 10 years since it ceased trading. Unbelievable as it is today there was a time when well paid educators were offered early retirement at age fifty, with a full index linked pension. All I needed was a means of earning a little extra to supplement the pension. Some sold encyclopaedia, some sold life insurance, some led a life of leisure but I chose to produce a range of 1/76 scale models.

I hope you will forgive the nostalgia but here is Trux Model Number 1A. FWD SU COE 4 X 4. This remained in production for 15 years and appeared in several variants. This is the original test model ie. one built to see that all parts fitted and therefore 25 years old.

Apologies for the poor quality photo.

I knew this was a mistake Owen. The Trux catalogue listed some 250 items. I suppose this is no longer nostalgia but a long term forward looking project.

Here are some other FWD SU COE family members.

Mike, you'd be surprised how often I ask people about rather niche items and they always say to me 'Trux Models was the place to go!' Then their eyes gloss over and they stare into the distance...

Excellent stuff as always, more greatly appreciated.

All right then. I forgo the traditional show of reluctance.

    Hows this for niche?

Or this complete, except for the marquee, Field Bakery.

This is an ancient photo taken on an early digital camera. A fellow who owned a business near here making bakery machinery bought a set. On National Service he was involved in tests to drop such a unit by parachute.

This would be a good time to say thank you to Noel in particular. It was he who introduced me to this Forum, and indeed persuaded the Adaministrator that it would be a 'good thing' to host the Trux website which was about to close down.

    Thanks Noel. Thanks everyone.

I am not good at the close up photography since I dropped my nice automatic SLR with macro zoom lens. Good daylight today so I am trying to take a few pictures with my intelligent automatic digital camera.

You are too kind Mike - it took no persuasion at all, your website was already well known by the "Powers that Be"

I thought this might be interesting/useful/informative but it might only be annoying/frustrating. In any case:
PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO ORDER ANY OF THESE FROM TRUX.

Some are available from other manufacturers who acquired the masters and rights. Some still appear on ebay (so I am told and whatever that is).

Although the title says 'a Complete List' I have recovered it from a memory stick and it is dated 2002. There were some more produced after that date.

I wish to point out that, depending what device you are using, the image may be three times the actual size of he model. Any faults are similarly magnified.

The front compartment housed a winch and four seats. The main part of the body had compartments for ammunition with two seats at the rear. In the background a CX22 with US 155mm gun (not Trux).

  18. Keep them coming Mike! Even at the cost of making the old Airfix motto "The biggest range of construction kits" wrong :)

But what I really think you should consider is writing a book on British softskins, what with all the knowledge and references you've amassed over the years! We poor profanes are in dire need of a comprehensive, plans and photos laden guide written by an expert to lead us inside the mind-boggling maze of British WW2 wheeled vehicles...

And if your countless and priceless contributions to this forum are anything to go by, who would be in a better position than yourself for writing such a bible?

A lot of work certainly, but one that would assure you a well-earned golden retirement in the abode of your choice, be it sunny England or the tornado swept Tropics, living off tepid ales or frozen Mai-Tais paid by a never-ending flow of royalties from a unique and eagerly awaited bible, which will endure for generations to come.

What on earth could a "Gar Wood Wrecker" look like, for example??

Tidying your cupboards is a commendable enough endeavour, but think of the myriads of people you would make happy with such a book :)

Wishing you a Happy (and busy...) New Year,

    Truly and sincerely yours,

    Michel

    Michel,

I did write a series of booklets to accompany the model ranges. They were before I had a computer, although I used a word processor. and the text and drawings are now lost to me. If anyone still has any of these you have my permission to post them.

They would be a goldmine of info on these varied and often overlooked vehicles.
Hope somone can find a copy of your original text and drawings.
