" Dear Mr Eude. Thank you for your email below. To carry out a grave search we require a search fee of £10. This should be made payable to Uckfield town Council. I don't think Albert's widow Edith Kathleen is still alive, but relatives may still live in the area which is near Framfield (there is a more specific address but don't feel that should be broadcast if there are relatives that this revelation may come as a shock to). I suggest you try Welcome to St Thomas à Becket Church, Framfield, Uckfield as a start point. Of course, Albert may have been cremated and ashes elsewhere, but the local Church should be a good start point. Language barrier may be a difficulty Bon chance!
Good evening everyone and thank you for your help, How do I know if my grandfather is the one who died in Uckfield? There you it not a means by military records to be sure it's him? or pension fund or the veterans. I'm not trying to meet his family, I do not want to shock or embarrass anyone. I just want to offer my mother to visit the grave of his father unknown. Thank you. Lolita.
The only way to be sure if this is the correct Albert Bingham (and you don't know his address in 1939) is to check his service records as there is usually a home address shown. Unfortunately, the service records have to be paid for and there is a considerable delay. The quickest route would be via any surviving UK family but as you say, it could come as a shock to them to discover that he started a second family abroad, only two years after his marriage. Did he know that your Grandmother was expecting a child ?
The above hopefully says something like: Lolita - I see that Seb has already contacted the council. When you do a search of FreeBMD there is only one Bingham, Albert E.J. It seems that this Bingham is a good match. Does anyone have a subscription for Forces War Records? - someone mentioned to search there on the other thread - there's an AEJ Bingham Quartermaster Sergeant listed in the WW2 link. http://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/NameSearch?FirstName=A&SaveThisSearch=False&RecordType=NotSelected&Page=0&RecordsPerPage=0&Surname=Bingham
I can't help you, However i will try, These type of things are complicated, There just simply isn't much legitimate websites to help find your grandfather, most of them are not for free.
There is another thread somewhere, I found him listed in the units war diary as the regiments A/RQMS.

RosyRedd, Lolita's first post has Sgt Bingham's duty as A/R QMS. It looks like the same man. Roxy Hi Roxy - Looking again, the forces site said captain, but still looks like the same chap.

Did he know that your Grandmother was expecting a child ? Hello Rich, Thank you for answering my s.o.s. Yes I know its address at 39, I put the photo in his handwriting and so he knew he was going to have a child and it would be a girl, unfortunately he has never seen, his regiment embarked in Dunkirk, I know that he then went to Italy (Monte cassino) after that I do not really remember. Thank you again and good day
Hi all, Wouha, you are amazing I had not seen the new posts! what step forward! I look at all the new information and asks me a question, X how it is that his number is no longer the same? is this normal X he was still in 2nd Regt medium? is it possible to find his service record? Anyone know he use FreeReg trying to find his marriage certificate or if someone is subscribed to ancestry? (2b register page 431, I can find his birth and the names of his parents? It's more a question! but you are so effective and me on a cloud ^ ^ I am really very grateful, I did not have many answers and information. Thank You all and I am sending you my sincere congratulations you are the best. Friendly. Lolita.
Soldiers and Officers had different service numbers. If a soldier became an officer his number would change. You would have to apply to the ministry of defence for a copy of his service record- They cost £30 and take up to 12 mths to arrive.
