Great resource, if your relatives served in North africa chances are they were on one, I tend to find posting date will be one day after the time the fleet sets sail, great resource on this subject: WS (Winston Special) Convoys in WW2 - 1940 Sailings and the ships involved: WS (Winston Specials) Convoys in WW2 - Warships Taking Part
If you can find a copy, or if anyone has one who is looking in has one, details will be found in the book Winston Specials, troopships via the Cape by Archie Munro. This book contains a lot of information on each of the WS convoys. Sorry I do not have a copy now but the local library obtained one on loan for a charge of £5 a few months ago, if you get stuck I am sure your local branch could get you a copy. Good luck Brian
Hi Andreas, Munro merely states in his WS Book "" The troops embarked on this first 'Winston Special' convoy are believed to have been territorial units for base and lines of communication duties in the Middle East" Mike
Well, you guys finally prompted me to get myself a copy of Winstons Specials. I bought it from Amazon for a good price secondhand, if the sticker still applied to the price, I would be £2.45p better off.
