I’m a CWGC volunteer and in one of my sites is the unmarked grave of 6920213 Rifleman William Charles FOX who died 23 Feb 1944. His record shows him as 7th (HD) Battalion, Rifle Brigade. I have searched in the usual places and found nothing. Can anyone help please. His family was last asked in the 70’s and still didn’t want to mark his grave but he was in service of his country and deserves to be known?

What exactly do you need help with? Where exactly have you searched?

He died 'At Home' hence his UK grave, casualty lists state KIA. The Graves Registration Report Form states "Relatives wish grave to remain unmarked" and this has obviously been respected. This was possibly his wife.

I agree with you that all personnel who died in the service of their country should be acknowledged as such, are you attempting to find a relative who would agree to change the original decision?

    Hello Zsaraman,

What information are you looking for? Where is this unmarked grave?

    Regards,

Edited to say that Tony56 beat me to it!

I was hoping to find a bit more about him, how and where he died. He is buried in Farnborough Cemetery. Each Nov I do place a RBL wooden cross on his grave and remove it shortly after out of respect.

Finding his relative is up to the CWGC and would not attempt to do so.

Thanks for that - Death Cert is no problem - his military records are, as a non relative it’s some time before anyone else can request them. Well I tried and will continue to place an RBL cross and as its on my EOHO patch I will continue to keep it tidy and grass cut.

    You can apply for them
Proof of death is the certificate on his CWGC page
You can also apply for his death cert to find cause of death
Get a copy of military records of service
