Some great pictures guys - I loved that Lanc picture especially Peter.

If Andy insists on bringing seaplane bombers into it then I have to show my favourite the PB2Y2.

To give cally's aircraft its full title....the Consolidated PB2Y-2 Coronado.

If seaplanes are to included then the PBY Catalina deserves a place.

Some assorted Sunderlands and Cats. from Lough Erne , 131OTU ,240, 209, and 422/423 RCAF.
Also in there a shot of the cockpit of a Stranraer , the last operational flights of this type took place from Lough Erne in early 1941.

B-24J #44-41064 V-Grand was the 5000th B-24 built by Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft Corp. She was built at the San Diego CA Consolidated plant. Most of the employees at the plant signed her body and wings with their names. She was sent overseas without a paint job so the AAF personnel could see the names as a "thank you" from the employees to the AAF personnel. The aircraft was piloted from San Diego to Italy by James D. Ayers and his crew. Sometime after arriving in Italy, this aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crash landed on the Island of Vis and was declared a total loss. The 41st Air Depot Group sent repair personnel from the 41st Depot Repair Squadron there. They repaired her enough to fly, and flew her out to Gioia del Colle, Italy for more complete repairs. While she was a Gioia Actress Mary Baine, Francis Faye and actor Jack Haley (Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz signed the side of the aircraft.

B-24D. As graceful as a fighter? I think so.
