Yes, compare with this SMS Derfflinger from Navis (US$ 73.50!). And believe me, it doesn't do justice to the model WELCOME TO THE ALNAVCO WEBSITE
I dunno, are they? They're original 1950's of me StepDad's, I was playing with them in the early 80's and I just grabbed them out the loft a few weeks back I see from the link that some company has totally 're-pressed' the old Triang stuff? [
Indeed, it is natural to feel some embarrassment to people who do not share our hobby. But please take into account that: "As I see you, you will see others." The social pressure is strong but ..... no "geek" bigger than a football fan. And nothing happens, because socially, it is accepted. But, I have many old and new custom figures on my website. Sincerely ... Jorge.
Got fed up of British Army camo so did this JB Models Landy up as a civie one. Put it on my lad's model railway. This chap is just explaining to his Mrs how much the army surplus trailer cost. Not my best model, the creative juices dried up a bit, still got another 3 of them to make though.

I've often wondered how people display large models. I've come across this 1/32nd Bristol Beaufighter. The guy cut the wings off
couple of my ongoing projects in 1:16 [ if i can find some place to get them all out i will post more
Good stuff Treeboa, not had much modelling of late. Is that the Trumpeter 1/16th transparent King Tiger I see? Somebody's been spoiling you with rather posh kits...
A T-34 with all that rust would have been dead long ago! My car is 20 years old and has less rust, now considering that a tank has a useful life between factory to junkyard of a few months or weeks, this hyper-realistic approach is way overdone. If it stood outdoors on a museum yard for 30 years without a repaint yes, I'd understand coz' I have seen them, but an operational tank?
Miguel, The T34 was driven straight out of the factory during heavy rain, hence the rusting before it was captured and recycled. Nice T34 model even though it is rusty. These were the last 1/16 scale tanks that I last saw at a modelling get together. Regards Tom
Here's a few Airfix 1/600 ships from a few years ago. Apologies for the dust HMS Belfast. HMS Fearless. HMS Nelson. .

I can see that happening. They probably didn't clean all the flux and slag off the welds and slapped a quick coat of paint on it. It could rust like that after the first rain after the slag and paint vibrated off.

Pre-war construction, old chap. I'm just speculating that the rusty seams could have resulted from a rush job of painting over dirty welds The paint wouldn't stick and the raw steal would rust in a day, like the cylinder boars of an iron engine block if you leave it out in the rain. I do agree with you 100 percent that some modelers really over do the weathering on WWII equipment, especially for Western Europe. Tanks that were factory new in June in 44 often look like something on display at Aberdeen by the Battle of the Bulge
