Paul Thanks for posting. Brings back some memories of my trip to Normandy in 2004. It was March break in the frozen hinterland north of the 49th parallel. I debated with the bride if we were going to do another nauseating trip to the Caribbean. We ( I ) decided that it was time to see France. I tromped around every WW2 site with a Canadian angle. The kiddies were bored stiff until we entered the Juno Beach Center. Then, they finally realized why the old man just had to get to France. Cheers Randy
Paul Should have asked for you to check out a display covering memorabilia from my Dad's Regiment, the 17th Duke of York's Royal Canadian Hussars. One of the founding members of the Regimental Association donated his most cherished black beret....next time. Cheers Randy
Paul, I always enjoy viewing your photographs after one of your field trips. Excellent as always. I believe that you are correct in assuming that the buckle is from German kit. Looks like the part that clipped under the belt for support from the shoulder Y strap. Regards Tom
Glad the photos are of interest. Thanks for that Tom - I did wonder if it was from that part of the kit.
We did a walk up the Corridor of Death and found a whole load of relics including this buckle; presuming it is German? Paul, Here is a picture of a piece that I found on the web. Photo from ebay.German WW2 Y-straps on eBay! Not very clear, but the clips are on both sides about 10 cm from the bottom and adjustable. Regards Tom
Looks like you had a great time Paul, and found the odd relic at Moissy too! Did you venture into any of the fields? I was there in May, and still can't believe the stuff that can still be found there after all these years.
This picture gets me. From Paul's album. A WW1 memorial damaged in WW2, also a reminder what wounds were inflicted on real flesh & blood too. War Memorial, Trevieres Showing shell damage from 1944
Looks like you had a great time Paul, and found the odd relic at Moissy too! Did you venture into any of the fields? I was there in May, and still can't believe the stuff that can still be found there after all these years. The fields were full of crops, so it wasn't really that time of year unfortunately. Everything we found was on the tracks. Owen - yes it's quite a spooky memorial.
Very Nice pics, a lot of feeling in there (translation french to english, oh my god ) Agree with Smudger Jnr for the relic
