And this hole in the ground is only noticable in that it has what looks like a Morris Minor in the background.

This is an "Official U.S. Army Photographer" getting paid. He will be from the same outfit that I obtained the photographs, he probably took some of them.

He would be getting paid in MPC (Military Payment Certificates) as regular US currency was not authorised in country. MPC would match the US currency dollar for dollar. If one had regular "green" US currency it could be traded in Saigon for MPC at maybe 3 to 1 and for Vietnamese currency an even higher rate. Of course this was frowned upon by the authorities with jail for those caught.

I dont remember how I was paid in Vietnam, but I do remember how I "made" money on the black market etc.

What is this weapon the instructor has? A bazooka?

I'd say an early version of the M72 66mm LAW.

I've only fired 2 of the sub-calibre ones in training at Sennybridge in 1987.
They looked more like this one.

Having a tank guard you while you clear brush must have been reassuring.

This G.I. appears to be sweeping for mines. The developer of the film has made remarks but the picture looks good to me!
