The mrs and I went on the wine route on Sunday and came home with 48 bottles of wine. All the expensive stuff were put into our "special" hide away. I looked at the list we keep and saw that I have 52 bottles of Shiraz, some over 10 years old. Now that it's turned cold here it's time to have a few
Bass Ale was first brewed in Burton-on-Trent, England in the year 1777. Bass is the product of one of the oldest breweries still in existance. Napoleon himself was in fact a fan and attempted to brew it in France.
Dos Equis and red wine, though not together Good choice! When I'm in the Lone Star state, Dos Equis is my beer of choice as well. As much as I love America, it's damn difficult to find a good brew south of the border.
One of the Jocks arrived at camp (Suffield Alberta 1976) after a session. With his bottle wrapped in brown paper. We watched in anticipation as he unwrapped the bottle, was it Buckies (a fortified wine ranked amongst the cheap electric waters) No it was - what the f*ck is that?
my wa bio didn't arrive as I've stated on this thread, my tipple of choice is moonshine rum from Dominica. My father in law came up last weekend, bringing three bottles then, changing aircraft at Antigua, disaster! one bottle broke in his case which naturally led to the discovery of the other two... so, the remaining bottles were confiscated The customs men asked my FIL if he wanted to pour it down the drain. He replied with a cold stare and said "No, somebody might have a use for it...." Grrrrr!!!bloodyGrrr!
Just had a 'Smithwick's Irish Ale' Most disappointing. It was a nice dark brown with a good head but if it had any flavor or aroma at all, I couldn't taste or smell it. I was expecting something bitter or maybe bitter and hoppy, but ..... nothing. Even American light beers have more flavor. I was smoking a cigar at the time, but still, I didn't taste a thing. Maybe I just got a bad bottle, but that usually results in what we call 'skunky flavor', in the US. It didn't even have that. Is this some marketing gimmick for the American market? Is it sold in Europe?
Dave We call it 'skunky' here too. I've never had a Heineken that didn't taste skunky too. To change the subject a little, are the Dos Equis commercials, with the Most Interesting Man, not the best beer ads around?
Found this down at the little store near the toll bridge. Ellie's Brown Ale - Avery Brewing Company - Boulder, CO - BeerAdvocate Company site: Ellie's Brown Ale - Avery Brewing Company It is delicious. Had a strong maple flavor, but not sweet at all. I'm not a fan of hoppy beers and this one is not bitter at all. If you can find it, give it a try. I've never had a Heineken that didn't taste skunky too I don't like Hieneken at all. It has a metallic whang to it that I do not care for. Is the version they sell here the same as is sold in Europe?

Is the version they sell here the same as is sold in Europe? Yes, maybe not as fresh but all Heineken in North America is imported from Holland. With the green bottles, that could explain the skunkiness. A number of other 'imported' beers in the U.S. are actually brewed in Canada (I.e. Fosters).
All I drink these days is a glass of red wine with my evening meal. Used to like a glass of Mackeson Stout. Sure would like to try a glass again but I don't think it's available here. Think I'll ask at the liquor
Epitaph on John Dove Innkeeper: Here lies Johnie Pigeon; What was his religion? Whae'er desires to ken, To some other warl' Maun follow the carl, For here Johnie Pigeon had nane! Strong ale was ablution, Small beer persecution, A dram was memento mori; But a full-flowing bowl Was the saving his soul, And port was celestial glory. ---------------------------- Here's a bottle and an honest friend! What wad ye wish for mair, man? Wha kens, before his life may end, What his share may be o' care, man? Then catch the moments as they fly, And use them as ye ought, man: Believe me, happiness is shy, And comes not aye when sought, man. RB. Edradour Sotch (cask-strength) or Redbreast Irish whisky are my first choices. I may have a glass of wine with dinner, but other than that it's whisky or water.
I have told my daughters that last will and testament writers are of sounder mind and body with a bottle at hand over Christmas: One can but hope I will get away with it for a few bottles more!
