I was offered absinthe tonight, which I accepted. To say it was awful would be an understatement, straight or mixed with the appropriate dilutions.

I tried one of these tonight. I had taken a sip or two before I took the photo. The head was much more involved upon pouring it into the glass. It was not particularly good and I seriously doubt I will purchase another. The initial flavor was satisfactory, but the aftertaste left much to be desired. I did not notice the label stated it was brewed with cherries. 9.7% ABV Ommegang — Brewer of Belgian-Style Beers in America | | Brewery Ommegang ⎯ Everything for a Reason
I can handle a single beer on a hot day and maybe a glass of wine with dinner, but when push comes to shove, I'll grab my Edradour Scotch or my Irish Redbreast.
Recently discovered a large slug of au naturel decent vodka followed immediately by a slurp of good Apple juice is a fine way to shoot. Takes away residual harshness of the shot without disrupting that 'mmmm, alcohol' sensation. It's how many Poles do it... apparently.
