    Hey all,

I've been looking for information on my wife's relatives in the wars and this person seemed to be one of the easiest to look into with him being a POW.

However, thats not been the case so far!

    I have been given the following so far;

Gunner 'Ronnie' JOWITT 4690327 stationed in Malaya from 13th Sept 1938. He was captured on Black Friday 15th Feb 1942 and returned on the Empire Pride on 11th Oct 1945. He was discharged on 5th May 1946.

I've not found him on the RA attestation papers which i thought would be the first place to see him. I'm trying to confirm his first name as I found a Reginald Jowitt joining in 1938 but the service number is different.

I'm hoping to find his unit so as to see his locations before the surrender and possibly the camps he was interned in.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I can confirm a POW named RONALD ARTHUR JOWITT. 4690327.

His service number is for The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, but I will check RA listings to see if I can find him.

    Thanks Mike.

Think I've located something that said he was possibly a Gunner with the 3rd Heavy Anti Aircraft Regt.

any chance he moved cap badge mid training to the RA? I've seen your posts on the soldiers captured in the fall of Singapore and Malaya. Would you have any suggestions on where to delve next to find out more?

    Pierce,

I can see a JOWETT, C 842356 in the 3rd HAA, but not the one you want.

    I have traced him.

You were right, its 3rd HAA, 11 Battery.

His name had been handwritten in afterwards,(feint) showing address as :
Ternlea, Wunthorpl (?) Lane , Wakefield.

The name is spelt Jowett, R and the service number shows 4609327. Someone has later amended this to 4690327.

The only information I can pick up is that he was sent to the Siam Railroad on
28.10.1942 in train referred to as 'U PARTY'

Thank you very much! I'm going to focus on the 'U-Party' train and 11 Bty's activities prior to the surrender.

    Again, many thanks.

There is a great personal account on the FEPOW site from a Gunner with 11 Bty, 3 HAA. I just wish it included names!!

I've not found much on this U Party train other than the list of the alphabet trains and their departing dates.

Has anyone come across some detail on these trains and their locations on the railroad?
