    It is remarkable (as I recall reading) that O'Connor and de Wiart escaped together (mentioned in the document at DocDroid mentioned above) and set upon walking to Switzerland. Neither of them were precisely young men. IIRC the two who did successfully get to Switzerland (Hargest and Miles) travelled most of the distance by train.

    Encountered him in my current research and looking for a short biography, plus any mention of his use of artillery in North Africa, I found a short (82 pgs) 2011 Masters thesis by a British Army officer studying at a US Army School: Why was General Richard O’Connor’s Command in Northwest Europe Less Effective than Expected?     Only skimmed the North African campaign chapters; nowt on his use of artillery alas.

    There are a small number of threads here that refer to him - id'd by using his tag - and this is the only thread about him. Some of the others are comparisons with other commanders.
