I visited Sgt Gibsons (post 6) Grave yesterday and have added pictures to that post. Regards Alistair
Hi Alistair, Whilst currently scanning my late Fathers service documents I haven't come across his paybook. Will the fact that he was repatriated from Germany and medically discharged mean it was taken from him as part of the discharge procedure ? Regards, Mick D.
Hi, The part 2 of the book (the actual pay part) seems to have been taken back on discharge on most occasions, but the part 1 (the main service bit that I've scanned) seems to stay with the serviceman, so I imagine he had it but at some point its got misplaced (hopefully it will turn up). Regards Alistair
Alistair, 2 of my great uncles were in WW2, can't find a thing on them, and MoD is even have a bit of an issue identifying their files. You wouldn't by chance have pay books for either Henry Thomas JACKSON or Francis William JACKSON would you? Both are WW2 vets. Cheers, Wayne
Hi Wayne, I've had a look at my list, afraid I dont have either - it was a long shot but worth a look. Sorry Alistair
Thanks Alistair, I appreciate it. Even MoD emailed me on my Service record requests, Francis WIlliam Jackson's birth date doesn't match what I have (and I have his actual birth cert), I'm thinking this may be a typo on their end, and Henry Thomas Jackson doesn't show up for MoD at all, only an F. Jackson with Henry's birth date. Their pulling the files for me to do further matching of parents, spouse, children, and address data I have from the period. Appreciate the effort, Cheers, Wayne Hi Wayne, I've had a look at my list, afraid I dont have either - it was a long shot but worth a look. Sorry Alistair
Hi Philip, I saw that but I know he wasn't RAF. From a military perspective on him I know that he served, he was a Sergeant in H.M. Army (from his Father's probate in 1945), and I have a picture of him in Army uniform in Holland in what looks like Jan 1945 (picture says January, and the shop that printed it shows in Holland on the back). You will find his brother, Ronald Stanley Jackson in the POW book though, #5387075, 4th Ox and Bucks. Here is the link with the picture: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/46841-uniform-experts-any-info-picture.html#post530142 Thanks for the info though, any little bit can make the difference when your stuck like this on a soldier. Cheers, Wayne There is a F.W. Jackson RA in the Pow book, Bombardier No.835194 ?
I've edited Fusilier Smiths entry as I had the wrong year for his death, 1944 when it whould have been 1943 - thanks to Minden1759 for pointing out my error and supplying a large amout of general information on the Italy campaign casualties which helps with context for the Battles. Thanks Alistair
I've added Private Maurice's grave photo which was on New Zealand Wargraves Project | Regards Alistair
Cause of death from death certificat added to Crawford, Nicholas, Whittingham and Sargeant. Regards Alistair
Its been a little while but another new book to add - as always any info would be appreciated - I have the Company War Diary on order 14287075 Sapper Thomas Robert Bell, 38 Field Company Royal Engineers, 2/8/43 http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2075319/BELL, THOMAS ROBERT The grave photo came from Wikisicily.com http://www.wikisicily.com/catania/scheda_catania.php?id=120&plot=IV&fnd=J.39# the medal slip has the first initial as J rather than T Alistair edit to add War DIary entry I got the War Diary thanks to Lee (psywar.org), and it has nothing that seems relevent on the 2nd August but on the 1st it has "1145hrs: While a party of 1 Platoon was undergoing instruction on Teller-mines 1,2, and 3, an explosion occured killing eight, in platoon lines. Spr O'Connor died at 141 Fd Amb. RAMC" Checking the casualties Sapper Bell is amongst a group of 8 Engineers so it does seem he was one of the 8 - Sapper O'Connor is nearby.
1776971 Edward George FULLICK, 152 Independent HAA Battery Royal Artillery, who was killed 02/04/42 and is buried Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2110617/FULLICK, EDWARD GEORGE I'll get the Battery War Diaries soon but if anyone can add anything it would be useful. Regards Alistair The War Diaries didn't add anything - however the casualty card below reveals he died of a fractured skull as a result of an accident
Another WW1 book, 9310 Egdar Malcolm Seager, 1/5th London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade), killed between 5th and 10th August 1918 http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/185916/SEAGER, E M he had been renumbered 300066 by the time of his death - ancestry also mentions he had been number 985 in 20th London Regiment. He landed in France 4th November 1914, so he seems to have been one of the originals with the Battalion when they went overseas and almost made it through. Alistair
I've added scans of Driver Buntins King and Country scroll and also his Paisley Burgh scroll Alistair
I think this collection is something to be proud of as you are reminding people that those that gave their lives in ww2 are not forgotten . Thankyou for sharing Elsie
2325348 Signalman John James Whiteside, HQ Army Group RA Signals (Still trying to find which AGRA this is) who was killed 2/7/44 http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2049303/WHITESIDE,%20JOHN%20JAMES
