Stan Gardener. 1St Suffolk's. He got home safe. The Americans entered the village where they were on 18th of April at 0730 hours. I met Stan at a Normandy Veterans meet at Corfe Mullon, introduced to me by my dearest, but late friend.... Richard Harris 1St Suffolk's of the Leading 8th Brigade.

It is a very sad story...Well it is for me. I am not sure I want to tell it. Bit upsetting as we fought in the same battles together in the 8th Brigade of Monty's Ironsides. We also left many very brave men behind.
    Sapper.

PS when I wrote starved and shot I was referring to the main body of POWs on the march, and how they were treated.
