It would seem that Len Wright was probably mistaken then. Maybe the glider he witnessed overturning was a different one from the one piloted by Jim and S.Sgt Waring?............

My belief, exactly, based on what we know. I've yet to read about the 22nd, but I believe that Sgt Sharrock was killed in the fighting and his body, like others, not found in the 'fog of war'.

As Jim flew out on the 17th it is probably/possibly correct that the signatures of the 16th were theirs, is it not?

Your Uncle and S/Sgt Waring did sign the note. I didn't make it clear that the note belonged to Len Wright and remained in his possession until he died.

    Thank you,

From what I have read so far this has been my feeling too. I will see if its possible to get hold of back copies of the Eagle as I have been given their contact details by another member of this forum.

:poppy: I like the name the Rhine Busters - Pity :poppy:

A potential candidate for the glider that Len Wright saw overturn could be Hamilcar No.318, piloted by S.Sgt D. A. White and Sgt C. W. Winkworth. It was carrying men of D Tp, 1st AL AT Bty. Sgt Winkworth was killed instantly and S.Sgt White died of his injuries later at the Schoonoord MDS......

Thanks for the list. Sorry, I thought you meant another list. Yes, I do have all the GPR ones, courtesy of John (horsapassenger). Superb material, which I'm using to write articles for The Eagle.

I have had a quick look and will go back to it tomorrow when I have more time to stumble my way around the site!

    Thank you,

    Hi JJS,

I currently have over 450 books on the Battle of Arnhem, of which about 26 concern the Glider Pilot Regiment and it's activities throught WW2. I am presently working my way through all of them to create a database which will contain the names of everyone mentioned in the books.
Unfortunately I haven't gotten round to the GP's yet but if you'd like a list of the books so you can see if any are of interest to you, then I can send it to you.

    All the best............:)

Yes it is really. I would like to see it and keep it on record for future generations of the family. We have a very large family, and many of the younger ones are very interested in the family history, which is quite refreshing. so that would be great if you could scan it in and copy.
    Thank you, JJS.

I'll get that sorted for you.

Thanks, yes I would be interested to see the list. The database sounds a fantastic idea, it would be really useful for anyone researching the subject or looking for a relatives history, so good luck with that.

If you were to attempt to buy all of the books on Paul's list firstly you'd be bankrupt (well almost) and secondly very old as some of them only come up for sale very occasionally.

If you're going to get one I'd suggest Glider Pilots at Arnhem by Mike Peters and Luuk Buist.

Luuk emailed this morning to say that he's having a search through his records for any additional information.

:D I have to agree John. Some of them (one in particular) only appear once in a blue moon don't they? ;).

GP's at Arnhem is probably the best one to get...........

    All the best :).
