At the back of the working camp at S. Antonio Negri there were iron barred windows to the billets and consequently the Italians did not have a sentry on the back. I obtained a hack saw from the farm workshops and a pair of civilian overalls in exchange for a pair of boots. I sawed through sufficient bars, and on the night of 6/9/43 broke away together with companion GUARDSMAN CLARKE.

    Continued para II

At the working camp at S. Antonio we worked as little as possible and sabotaged as much as possible. One day we went on strike and the next day Italian Officers came down and gave us a severe warning.

    Continued para 4
Having escaped with my companion Gdsmn. CLARKE on the 6/9/43 we wanted to get into SWITZERLAND. We got to the mountains of BRESCIA but were unable to get into SWITZERLAND. In October the cold weather set in, and we came down again into the plain, and on 2 Nov. 1943 we were taken in by a peasant family LUCINI PIETRO of CAPPELLA [DE'] PICENARDI, CREMONA, from where at opportune moments we did sabotage. On the 25/4/45 we came out in the open collaborating with the Partisans. We arrived at the Repatriation camp at MILAN on the 6th JUNE 1945 and were conveyed to NAPLES by Repatriation organisation.
