We found a very bedraggled young collared dove three days ago whilst walking the dog. She was soaked through, standing in the grass at the kerbside. She was unable to fly and had possibly been got by a cat as many of her tail feathers are missing. She has made good progress, is eating well but we will not release back into the wild until her tail feathers have regrown and she can fly.

This morning I noticed a very small lump on the top of her head but thought nothing of it. I went back to check on her an hour later and the lump was four times bigger. It turned out to be a tick, obviously picked up in the long grass. It was easily removed with one of those plastic tick removal sticks. She is looking a lot better without it.

NOT the one flattened by traffic just up the road!

Luckily the dog was in the front room window so the patio door is still intact.

Mr B'zzard atop lunch; formerly guinea fowl. Quite possibly road kill opportunism, but Mr Gamekeeper will be after Mr B'zzard, nonetheless:

We see this every so often. Apart from feathers, a beak and wing end leading edges are the usual remains. They (attributed sparrowhawk for us) could do this more often hereabouts. Pigeon wing flapping contests dislodge the ancient tiles on my roof and I can really do without that. But I do have a bit of fun sometimes with grandchildrens' water weapons (they're not pistols like back in the day, are they)?
