I have often thought that those large scale radio controlled model tank makers have missed a trick. I would much rather be driving around a full scale replica Goliath than a 1/16th scale Tiger.:D

Something which is uniquely German. :)
They must have been very vunerable , wonder what their success rate was and what the troops themselves thought of them ?

They've always intrigued me too James, but one reads comparatively little on their actual use.
There's a very nice looking book that seems to cover them thoroughly, (very expensive too) :
Funklenkpanzer: The History of German Army Remote- and Radio-controlled Armor: Amazon.co.uk: Markus Jaugitz, Jean Restayn, Waldemar Trojca: Books
Missing Links JJ FedorowiczX Funklenkpanzer Review
(Something in there on a remote control Demolition Schwimmwagen according to that review!)

As the last thing I need is more pricey unread books though, I Might have to get the Schiffer ones first.
German Remote-Control Tank Units 1940-1943 by Markus Jaugitz - Schifferbooks.com
German Remote-Control Tank Units 1943-1945 by Markus Jaugitz - Schifferbooks.com

Not often Schiffer is the cheaper option!

    Something which is uniquely German
BTW, Not quite uniquely ;) :
    British Goliath - The Beetle.

Always remind me of those bomb dispasol tracked robots.

I think after the succuess of UAV's like Predator and cheap Guzzi engine ones (I forget the name), only a matter of time before the land forces want a ULV (ummanned land vehicle??). Technolagy gets better these are going to get more common.

Adam , I had no idea we had produced or considered a similar remote controlled device, thanks for the call on this one . :)

They are already being used in combat by the Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan. Policy is that by 2015, 30% of all combat ground vehicles will be remotely controlled. Doc

Makes me laugh how many shots there are of allied troops obviously fooling about with Goliaths.
Seems plain that once the explosives are made safe, what you're left with is essentially a damned fine toy...

Great shot, nice use of the British nomenclature 'Beetle' too.

    Oh bugger...
This thread reminds me of that ridiculously expensive RC Panzer book I covet.
And I'll be in a place where I can actually look at it next week.

    Oh deary me .
