T/10666517 Driver Dennis BLISSETT, RASC, who died 11/5/43 and was a battle casualty, the casualty return seems to have him as accidentally killed Casualty Details - it would be useful to narrow down what RASC unit he was with - he was previously wounded 27/1/43
That's everything reposted - I need to have a check back and tidy up CWGC links. If anyone can help with extra info on any of these men it would be most welcome - I'd like to fill in some of the missing graves/memorials - any local newspaper cutting or anything like that would be good. Alistair
After tidying up the ones I already had its time to add a new one T/191334 Driver George Henry LISLE of the RASC who was killed in action 21/11/43 Casualty Like Driver Blissett (the last book posted) - its hard to do any more digging without knowing his RASC Company - if anyone can help narrow these down it would be much appreciated excerpt from 46 Recce War Diary from Recce_Mitch "21st November. .......... During the night the DUKW in which Major Neill and other ranks were travelling was blown up by a mine under two feet of water. This was on the track leading from 858887 south west to the coast. Casualties – Trooper Gunthorpe, killed, Trooper Richardson, missing believed killed. Driver Lisle (RASC) attached, killed. Injured – Major D. Neill, M.C., Sergeant Redican, L/Corporal Pote, L/Corporal Beech, Driver Graham (RASC). None of these injuries were serious."
Good thinking, I guess that's 2 more War Diaries I'll need to look into. A quick google didn't offer anything on the Tipper Platoon, 239 Company on the other hand had a few hits - basically about them being the first in theatre to use DUKWs - I'll look his book out and see if there are any notes in the training that tie in with them. Its given me somewhere to work from. Cheers
Thanks to Guy Hudson for mailing me a newspaper clipping with a photo of Lisle, now added to his entry. Thanks Alistair
Alistair. I will be in Minturno CWGC cemetery at the end of Apr if you would like a photo of Dvr Lisle's headstone. Regards Frank
HI Frank, If you could that would be great - I'll be in that neck of the woods in July just passing by, no chance for a look in myself. Thanks Alistair
Nothing much Alistair, but here is confirmation of Captain Taberer at Campo 47 alongside some of his fellow officers from South African Forces. This is from WO392/21, POWs of the Italians August 1943.
